About

In 1967, the manufacturer of world-famous Herend porcelain started producing ceramics in a few simple, mostly uncolored styles.  Much later, in 1990, the manufacturer began producing ceramics for Herend Village Pottery, expanding the quantity and enhancing the quality of the many patterns of pottery that are now available today.  The two factories for Herend Village Pottery and Herend porcelain may be found (and visited!) in the town of Herend, Hungary, but they are separate entities, each specializing in its own unique and expert style of hand-painted craftsmanship, and each catering to different markets around the world.

Today, as the only (known) importer and distributor of Herend Village Pottery in the United States, it is my personal mission and very distinct pleasure to bring this incredibly beautiful, versatile, and DURABLE line of earthenware to the States!  Why?  Because it's amazing!!  Herend Village Pottery is completely microwave, dishwasher, and oven-safe; each piece is fired three times to ensure that people like you and I can enjoy what we have for a long while down the road without having to worry about being super careful or needing to sacrifice those aforementioned everyday efficiencies and conveniences.

The kilns at the Herend Village Pottery factory
So why me, you might ask.  I think it has to do with just the right smattering of love, zeal, friendship, and opportunism.  Last year, I had the good fortune to live in Budapest, Hungary with my ever-adventuresome hubby and on one of our excursions we came across a Herend Village Pottery store, right across from the fairy tale Parliament building.  Upon entering that magical store, filled to the brim with brightly colored "gotta have-its", I fell in love.  (If you have ever visited this store you know what I am talking about.)  Everywhere I turned, I saw something new, something so unique and vibrant and appealing that I would come to spend hours in that little shop, hovering over platters, plates, coffee pots, bowls, and baking dishes adorned with the most gorgeous patterns and motifs you've ever seen.

A wall of the coveted store
Very quickly, love turned to a zealousness that I am sorry to say occupied quite a bit of my time.  I found myself stopping by often - after work, during a walk, with visitors and friends - to muse over the endless possibilities.  With over 200 serve pieces to choose from in over 60 patterns, I had plenty to keep me busy!  After a while, I got to know the store owners, both very friendly and patient Hungarians who were eager to chat in English (and teach me some Hungarian) while accommodating my endless stream of questions.  Over time, a friendship began to develop and I came to the store as much to see my friends and to learn about their business - and culture - as I did to poke around.  When my work ended in early summer and our time in Hungary started drawing to an end, I took the opportunity to ask my friends at the store whether they had any representation in the States.  You see, with a product that good you can only help but wonder... Turns out, they didn't (that they knew of) and so I grabbed the bull by the horns and offered up a sort of partnership that I am happy to say has been wonderfully fulfilling, exciting, and educational.

So here we are!  You now know what Herend Village Pottery is and you know a little bit more about me, the American liaison and importer of this fabulous line of Hungarian earthenware.  All you have to do now is check out the many different patterns and styles available and decide what you like.  No matter what you choose, Herend Village Pottery provides you with a high-end, high-quality alternative to dinnerware, giftware, serveware, and home decor.
